Notes: This past week House Republicans agreed to join in passing legislation to ease the United States long-time embargo of Cuba. Once passed, Americans may sell medical and agricultural products to Cuba. Previously, Republicans had blocked any such move in part, at least, because of their strong ties to American Cubans. However, it's a presidential election year, and farmers and business interests want to sell to Cuban markets. In deference to the Cuban-American lobby, credit won't be extended to Cuba. 06.30.00
