Notes: Mother's Day, 2000 -- The Million Mom March is in Washington, D.C. Organizer Donna Dees-Thomases, former publicist for Dan Rather, says the march is a grass-roots movement to control handguns. She says that the day after the march she will form the movement into a permanent organization that may seek tax-exempt status to promote handgun control. Critics claim the march is anything but grass-roots, being professionally run and backed by Democratic money. All week, the NRA has run touchy-feely commercials to counter the march. Yes, Dees-Thomases -- on leave from CBS News -- is the sister-in-law of Susan Thomases, a friend and adviser to Hillary Clinton. 05.12.00
