Notes: Though the campaign of George W. Bush has taken in a record amount of campaign funds, it has also spent a record amount of money. By refusing matching funds, the Bush camp has not had spending limits other candidates have had. Bush now must do some fund-raising that was not planned. The question is how tapped out are his contributors. Meanwhile, he's taken up John McCain's mantle as a reformer calling himself a "Reformer With Results" -- a saying thought up by a member of his "Iron Triangle" of advisors Karen Hughes. Despite McCain's claim to being a campaign-finance reformer, he's raised buckets of money himself with much of it coming from lobbyists. 02.18.00
