Notes: Recently, I turned on my television to a cable news network while waking up. There was a logo about the U.S. confronting Iraq against a red background. The background music behind the logo created a mood of dire seriousness. The show's host somberly intoned that he would be asking questions about the U.S. confrontation with Iraq. Whoa. I thought we'd gone to war with Iraq and grabbed the remote control to furiously check other channels. However, there was no war other than the ratings war between the cable news networks that seems to push them to edges of hysteria in search of viewers. 10.27.02
