Notes: This past week, George W. Bush announced his energy policy. Dick Cheney had headed the commission that came up with the plan. Critics of Cheney's actions say that he drew his information mainly from input from the energy industry. Both Bush and Cheney have backgrounds with oil companies and detractors of the plan claim it will reap huge profits for the energy industry.

The Bush camp is reported to be surprised at the amount of negativism that has greeted the president's energy policy which includes drilling in pristine areas of the country. Bushies respond that modern drilling techniques are such that the areas will not be damaged. Environmentalists remain unconvinced. However, not ones to get off message, the presidents' people are reported to be fanning out across the nation to sell the policy to the American people. 05.20.01
